Opportunities are introduced constantly. Some opportunities are better than others. To take advantage of an opportunity, a strategy must exist. Can you answer the 5 questions? That strategy must be deployable. Deployability is rated or based on structure. The quality of the structure directly affects the level of deployability. No structure, no deployment, no execution of strategy. Structure is critical in any business organization and it is no respecter of industry.
Example: You stand at the edge of a body of water overlooking many fish. You want to catch the fish. You dive in to catch the fish. Did you succeed?
OR you create a strategy to get a fishing pole and some bait. You build the structure by getting the pole and bait and go out on the dock. You execute on the strategy with your structure – you deploy it. Did you succeed?
OR you create a strategy to get a fishing net and a boat. You build the structure by gathering the personnel, procuring the boat, and establishing relationships with vendors that want to buy your fish. You execute on the strategy with your structure – you deploy it. Did you succeed?
- Business structure – the proper structure, as dictated by the strategy, must be built for the present and the future. Key items on business structure include:
- Organizational Readiness – who has ownership, locations of business (single state, multi-state, international), legal, taxing authorities – tax benefits and liabilities, ease of transfer – ownership exit, entity flexibility for economy shifts, contracts
- Resources – asset protection and asset development (assets include people, equipment, inventory, infrastructure, offers, contracts, and more), centered around Revenue Resources Required
- Execution – without the proper structure, deployability and execution will suffer. Deployable aspects include:
- Non-negotiables – “True North” identification, understanding, sharing
- Policies, Procedures, Systems – existence, accurate, utilization
- Training – on-boarding, intentional continuous development to facilitate execution, validation, and tracking
- Personnel – those in charge of executing activities, efficiencies, accountability, performance issues – root cause
- Management / Leadership – behavioral culture, revenue science-based, communications, evaluation decisions
- Business Development – revenue-based, message delivery, focal client implementation, historical data to guide future

Using a medical analogy to start, the first step is a visit. This visit could be for a regular check-up or because there is something specific that needs to be addressed. Vitals need to be measured and assessments made with proper recommendation(s). This provides the basis and grounds for the next steps.
A plan to proceed is worked out jointly per the assessment and recommendation(s) made to ensure a good fit for both parties. The plan is continuously revisited as tasks are executed and/or dynamics change. Revenue science-based principles are deployed to ensure existence and conformity to proven methods and practices. Adjustments are made, non-existent responsibilities are initiated, and alignment develops. Key responsibilities of Strategy are delegated to ownership, C-suite, and VP level personnel. Key responsibilities of Structure are delegated to management. Key responsibilities of Execution are delegated to hires. Delegated responsibilities are tracked and measured, and accountability is reiterated.
Results will be seen across the board in areas like reduced costs of chaos, increased culture of awareness to an aligned strategy, better qualifications of hires and directions to all hires, intimate familiarity with financials, and relationships with suppliers both materially and financially. Intentional is not accidental.
